On Thursday October 12th our school held the Collaborative Strings Concert and it was a huge success. The orchestras from Squalicum, Sehome, and Bellingham all performed their own pieces and ended the show with one combined piece.
It was easy to see how hard all the students worked on making this a superb performance. The Squalicum Nova orchestra started the night off strong with a performance of Bohemian Dance – Antonian Dvorak, arr. Leidig. Squalicum’s other orchestras did just as great with songs from “Kiki’s Delivery Service” and “Les Misérables”.
After Squalicum, Sehome took the stage to play Adante Festivo – Jean Sibelius and Serenade for String Orchestra, moment 1 – Antonin Dvorak. Finally, Bellingham ended the show with Symphony 88, Final – Franz Joseph Haydn which was conducted by Evan Cobb, a student teacher, and Symphony 25, movement 1 – W.A. Mozart.
But the showstopper of the night was the combined piece. All the chamber and concert orchestras ended the night with Yumiweeus – Richard Meyer. The whole show was magnificent and a splendid experience for me as an audience member. It’s great how all the schools get together and perform together. Even when they weren’t doing a combined piece, they were a community that was there supporting each other and it was awesome to see.
The crowd was cheering and having a great time watching their friends and family do an amazing job. The PAC was full of supportive people who were excited to be there and loved the music.
