CAN I HAVE SOME RELATIONSHIP ADVICE?
Dear Human (presumably),
As a pigeon, I can sense the urgency in your message through the capitalization of each word in your submission. Not to fret – I have some advice!
First – you need confidence in yourself in order to really establish a relationship with someone else. Within a relationship, it is easy to feel insecure and overthink things, and it often causes strains between the two people that are not amended. Still, it’s important to make sure you’re in a good space mentally before entering something serious. That doesn’t mean you can’t have off or rough days, it just means you’re ready to be vulnerable with someone who you really trust and care for.
Secondly – Establish proper communication. Be honest with your partner and talk if there is arising issues within your relationship that need to be addressed. Being direct will allow for stronger bonds between the two of you, which can be effective for creating necessary boundaries or smoothing out bumps in the road. Don’t be afraid to be honest – try and use assertive language when referring to how you’re feeling, and make the effort to listen openly to your partner without interrupting or correcting how they feel.
Thirdly, and finally – Maintain respect for your partner. Unfortunately, there will always be dents or conflicts within the relationship, as it is natural to not agree upon everything. However, that doesn’t implore you to be petty or choose to not listen when they try and communicate their feelings. You may be frustrated or upset at what they said, but being petty or tearing down their dignity will only crumble the relationship. Listen to what they say, regardless of how much it hurts, and find ways together on how to go about fixing these issues as they arise.
