Color guard is a club that meets every spring, preparing for events like the Memorial Day Parade and Youth Pride which they march in alongside the BHS marching band. The group combines choreography with flag twirling, performing to songs like ‘Party in the USA’ and ‘Dancing Queen’.

After speaking to a few members, it’s clear the group has a lot of fun and learns some valuable skills. When asked, Lila Munson offers that “there’s nothing more fun than waving a flag around. And hitting yourself in the head with it,” she admits. Additionally, Grace Pahl shares that it is overall a very fun community. “And we have an amazing coach who is really supportive and encouraging,” they add.

Grace also mentioned a ‘winter guard’ in the works, involving a similar group of students that operates during the winter months, working largely indoors. This will feature education on new techniques and tricks. Look for them in any parade the band marches in, as well as performing half time shows during sports events. If competition is your cup of tea, then definitely join for the competitions they will be entering next year against other color guards.
