We all know and love the performances that are done around Homecoming, but many do not know all the time and effort that is being put into them! Dance team, cheer, and band have all been working hard to make the performances the best they can be.
For the Homecoming assembly, which was on October 4th, Band dance and cheer all got to be apart of the homecoming assembly in some way. Dance team prepared three routines, two that are the dance team, and one routine that is performed by a group of non-dance team students called Dance Crew! Cheer also performed at the assembly! This year band got to perform the Star-Spangled Banner and play as everyone walked in!
For the Homecoming football game half time show at the football game that was also on October 4th, band, dance, and cheer all come together to make a memorable performance! This year band marched onto the field playing You Give Love a Bad Name, and then dance and cheer ran out to dance along to My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up) that band played as well.
I know that I have only talked about what they performed, but there is so much hard work put into these performances that can go unappreciated. I interviewed members from each of these activities to talk about the time and effort they contribute to them.
I interviewed Lauren Johnston who is a sophomore, second year member on the dance team, and fitness officer on the team. Lauren said, “My favorite part of preparing for Homecoming is getting to participate in the school activities like hall decorating, but also choreograph one of the dance routines for the assembly with my friend and fellow officer Maiya Mroz”. Lauren also added, “HOMECOMING IS THE BEST!”.
Band has been practicing the two tunes (and two other tunes not for Homecoming) they played since their annual band camp back in August that was in preparation for Husky Band Day at UW and this school year. They have been rehearsing every day in class, and weekly in rehearsals outside of class time.
I hope that you will understand all the work that goes into these performances, that you cheered loud for all these groups, and that you cheer even louder in the future!
