As November continues, we see the beginning of post-season girls’ soccer including districts and the start of the state level tournament. Bellingham, Sehome, and Squalicum Varsity teams all had successful seasons in the Northwest Conference. Bellingham had an impressive regular season record of 11 – 4 – 0. In the past two weeks all three schools competed in the District 1 2A tournament. This regional tournament decides who goes to the 2A state tournament starting November 11th. Squalicum battled their way through 3 games but lost to Lynden in penalty kicks. Bellingham made it to the fourth game of districts going out of the tournament in penalty kicks against Lynden after a hard-fought game that was a 2-2 tie at the end of extra time. Sehome won District 1 with a tight 4-3 victory over Anacortes, with both teams going to compete in state.
Good job Bayhawks for their awesome girls’ soccer season!
The weekend of November 8th brought us the 2A Cross-Country State meet. Bellingham’s Varsity Girl’s Cross Country competed and got 5th place overall. This is an amazing accomplishment. Meanwhile two boys from Bellingham Varsity Boy’s Cross Country competed, placing 3rd and 4th with their individual times. This is a very impressive feat, so congratulations.
Many other teams and athletes from Bellingham High as well as our neighboring schools are competing at the district and state levels so let’s cheer them on whether that is going to a match or a meet or supporting from afar. Great job to all the other Bellingham Fall sports teams as well including Football, Boys Tennis, Girl’s Softball, Girl’s Swim and Dive, and Volleyball for their season and/or post-season endeavors!
